I’ve been incredibly fortunate to learn from an amazing teacher who’s not only a master of the craft but also a source of constant inspiration. Her patience, encouragement, and wisdom has guided me through every step (and stumble). With each session, she has shown me that ceramics isn’t just about perfecting technique; it’s about embracing the process, experimenting, and finding joy in the unexpected.
In the beginning, it was all about embracing the chaos. There were plenty of “oops” moments along the way, but those slip-ups taught me more than any textbook ever could. Like that time I put a transparent glaze over an already glazed piece. I was hoping for a smooth, glossy finish, but when it came out of the kiln, it looked like a multi-coloured mishmash of surprises. Not exactly what I had in mind.
And then there was the tragedy of the shattered pot—scrubbed the surface a bit too hard, and it slipped right out of my hands and crashed into a million pieces. As I stared at the shards scattered across the floor, there was a lesson hidden there, too. Sometimes, you just have to let go (of the pot and of perfection), and that’s as much a part of the craft as anything else.
Ceramics is a way for me to connect with others, share stories, and express myself in a whole new way. I’m excited to share this adventure with you, where each piece tells its own little tale of curiosity, happy accidents, and the pure joy of creating something uniquely mine.
